Anyone tried redirecting a high DR domain to a new site…?

Here’s the deal: I’m planning to launch a SaaS for a specific niche. I recently bought a domain from an old SaaS in the same field. The domain has a 55 DR, 4.8k backlinks, and still gets around 200 visits a month. It’s not a well-known name, so I don’t think it’d cause any confusion if I took it over, but I don’t really like the name.

I’m leaning towards buying a new domain and just redirecting the old one to it. Would this hurt my chances, or would the impact be small after redirecting? This niche is pretty competitive, so I’m hoping for any SEO boost I can get.

I think redirecting is a good move. Are any of the pages that get traffic relevant to your new SaaS? If so, recreate those pages on the new site and set up 301 redirects from the old domain to those pages.

For any pages you’re not bringing over, just redirect them to your homepage.

It can definitely help your SaaS with SEO—just use a 301 redirect to keep the important backlinks and get the most out of it.
