Google stopped indexing homepage after server migration… what’s happening?

After migrating my ecommerce site to a new server, Google stopped indexing the main homepage for brand searches. Before the migration, searching for ‘brandname’ would usually bring up the default homepage URL (https://www.brandname.xx) as the top result.

However, a few days after the server migration, Google stopped indexing this homepage URL, and now brand queries show links to product subcategories or sometimes http://brandname.xx or http://www.brandname.xx (without SSL). It seems like https://www.brandname.xx is not being indexed at all. There haven’t been many other ranking changes for other keywords.

What could be causing this issue?

Any chance you accidentally noindexed or blocked Google bots during the server migration?

If you’re using Let’s Encrypt, try deleting and recreating the certificate. Sometimes if it’s generated before the transfer finishes, it can cause issues. Also, check your Cloudflare settings and clear all caches.

Strange behavior for just one page. It could be due to a different or improper setup after the migration. Maybe there are changes in the HTTP headers.

Try running a rich result test or checking Google Search Console for any errors.

Quick update: After the migration, it turns out the hosting provider had tagged some pages with ‘X-Robots-Tag: noindex, nofollow’ for some reason.
