How Much of an Impact Does Heading Structure Have on SEO?

Hey folks…

I’m using WordPress to build my product website, and I’ve noticed something about the heading structure. When I use templates or components like Sections, CTAs, etc., they often end up creating a header order like H1–H5 or H2–H4–H6. Unfortunately, I can’t change this in some cases.

I’m wondering how much of an impact this heading structure has on SEO. Does having an inconsistent or non-ideal heading hierarchy affect how search engines interpret and rank my site?

If it does make a difference, are there any best practices or tips for improving heading structure within WordPress?

I’ve been working with WordPress for a while, and I’ve also run into the issue of heading structures being less than ideal, especially when using certain templates or components that seem to throw off the hierarchy. While inconsistent headings like H1-H5 or H2-H4-H6 might not drastically tank your SEO, they can still affect how search engines interpret the content’s structure and relevance. It’s best to aim for a logical, descending order (H1, H2, H3, etc.) to clearly communicate the page’s structure to search engines. If you can’t change the headings in certain templates, consider using custom CSS to adjust the visual hierarchy or restructure your content where possible. Keeping things as clean and organized as you can helps both SEO and user experience.
