Hi everyone, I’m new to SEO but will try to explain the issue. In the SERP sitelinks, Google seems to be pulling footer text and even some code as the meta description instead of the original meta description. I suggested adding a data-nosnippet tag to the footer section to the tech team, but now Google is pulling other code for the snippet. I’m not sure what to do next.
I checked the meta descriptions for PLP pages, and they follow a structure and are somewhat similar. I’m not entirely sure if that’s causing the problem. Here’s a preview of what’s showing in the snippets:
Google decides what to show in the meta description most of the time. You can only improve your page content and hope Google uses a better summary of it.

I’ve had some success by placing the meta description near the top of the page content. Google often picks sections with relevant keywords for snippets. Writing high-quality content that aligns with SEO best practices can also help.

Thanks for the input. Does this mean the data-nosnippet tag won’t work? I noticed the meta descriptions on PLP pages are a bit similar. Could that be causing the issue?
@Miles
I’m not familiar with the data-nosnippet tag, so I can’t say for sure. If the meta descriptions are too similar, it might confuse Google. Try adding unique, valuable content to differentiate them.
I had the same problem with a client’s ecommerce site recently. Google kept pulling footer text into snippets.
Adding the “data-nosnippet” attribute to the footer div is the fastest fix, but you also need to improve your meta descriptions. Focus on including benefits and relevant keywords so Google has better options to display.
If you need help with structuring meta descriptions, let me know. I’ve got templates that work well for ecommerce pages.
