Is it smart to buy Google reviews?

I recently took over a local business with a low Google rating (under 3 stars), and it’s been tough to get new customers because of it. While I’m working on improving the service and asking for real reviews, it’s a slow process. I found a service like Star-Reviews com that sells 5-star Google reviews, claiming they don’t get flagged. I’m considering using them to boost my rating quickly, but I’m worried about the risk. Has anyone used a service like this? Did it help your business, or should I avoid buying reviews altogether? I’d appreciate any advice!

You could offer a promotion when people leave a review on your Google page.

You should give the promo no matter if the review is positive or negative.

Good idea :+1:

Offering promos for reviews goes against the terms of service for many platforms, including Google. I wouldn’t risk it. You can ask real customers for reviews, but never offer money, goods, or any reward in exchange. Google can track where the reviews come from. For example, if your business is in one place and reviews come from accounts made in another country, or if the accounts are new or have little activity, Google might remove or flag them.

If you do it carefully, Google won’t catch you. The extreme example you gave is easy for Google to track, but if you handle it the right way, they won’t notice. It’s like buying backlinks—if done correctly, you won’t get caught.

In the end, it’s up to you. This is just based on my experience, and it works for me.

I’d rather reach my goals slowly than risk not reaching them at all. Buying reviews isn’t worth it, and I think the FTC recently made it illegal.

Following this. Personally, I’ve never bought a Google review. I always earn them through good service. I know people who bought reviews, but they either got suspended or the reviews disappeared. Curious to see if anyone knows a reliable reviewer who can stick around and is local to their market.

I wouldn’t openly share where you’re getting reviews from. Google indexes posts from this forum in search engines, so I’d suggest removing the URL.

Also, it’s against FTC rules to admit you’re buying them.

I would avoid this. More people are catching on to fake reviews, and it can hurt your business’s reputation. Instead, encourage customers to leave real reviews by offering small freebies or a 10% discount.

Try to get reviews from actual customers after a sale. Google can often tell if a review is tied to a real purchase. I’d stay away from buying reviews.

Don’t do it. Google usually finds out, and you could end up in trouble or lose your Google Business profile.

I wouldn’t recommend buying reviews. Focus on getting them organically. Even just a few real reviews can help you grow.

Improve your customer service and the reviews will come. Authentic reviews are always the best. Ask satisfied customers to leave a Google review. You could also put a QR code in your store or send out review links via email. Keep your Google Business page updated with info about new management and share photos of your improvements.

Ask happy customers for reviews. They’ll be glad to leave one if they liked your service. I haven’t bought reviews, but I know lots of vendors sell them. I’m not sure if you’d get caught, but it could be worth the risk :person_shrugging:

In many places, it’s actually illegal to buy reviews.

I wouldn’t do it. It might seem like a good idea now, but manipulating your brand this way will probably come back to bite you in the future.

No, don’t do it.
