I’m buying a domain and there’s an option to add SSL for $7.99 a month. Is it worth it? How important is SSL for SEO?
- Is SSL worth it? Absolutely.
- Is it worth $7.99/month? Not really. SSL should be free these days. Let’s Encrypt is what most people use now.

Yeah, it’s basically the standard now.
Don’t pay for SSL, man. Almost every hosting company gives it for free.
GoDaddy still charges something like $150/year for SSL. It’s insane.

Yeah, I hate that too.
Most WordPress hosting comes with free SSL. If yours doesn’t, just set up a free Cloudflare account. You’ll get SSL and a CDN for free.
No need to pay, Let’s Encrypt certs are free.
SSL is important (super important, actually), but $7.99/month is too much. Let’s Encrypt is free—use that.
Don’t pay for it.
For regular sites, Domain Validated (DV) SSL from Let’s Encrypt is free and works fine.
If you’re running an e-commerce site, you might need Organization Validated (OV) or Extended Validation (EV) SSL, but those cost more because they involve stricter checks.
But for most sites, free SSL is totally fine.
Most hosting services offer SSL for free.
Let me guess… GoDaddy?

GoDaddy’s free SSL comes with WordPress hosting.
But NetSol? Avoid them at all costs.

It’s actually Network Solutions.

Ah, them. Yeah, they’re worse than GoDaddy somehow. Definitely look for a different provider.
Move your domain to Cloudflare and get free SSL. Don’t pay for it.
If you’re running an online store or taking credit card payments, paying for SSL makes sense.
But for regular sites, Let’s Encrypt or Cloudflare works perfectly fine.
Netlify is great. Free SSL comes with it.
Agree with the others—SSL is essential but you shouldn’t have to pay for it. Cloudflare is your best bet.
Most reputable hosting companies include free SSL.
Sounds like GoDaddy’s doing their thing. They love to upsell basics that are free elsewhere.
Definitely get SSL, but maybe consider switching hosts.
