Any totally free seo tools out there besides ahrefs & semrush?

I’m new to SEO and planning to switch careers, so I’m looking to learn as much as I can about SEO tools.

I know Ahrefs and Semrush are popular, but they’re also pretty pricey. Are there any good free tools that offer solid SEO features? I get that some may have limits, but I’m hoping to find some options that don’t require payment to get useful info.

I’ve heard paying for Ahrefs or Semrush can be worth it because of the value they bring, but I’d still love to know about some actually free alternatives.

Screaming Frog is a good option if your site has less than 500 pages.

Appreciate it!

Google Search Console and Google Trends are great for SEO insights.

You can use Ahrefs Webmaster Tool for free if you have access to your site’s Google Search Console.

Is it fully free, or are there hidden paywalls? Some free tools end up having lots of restrictions.

@Ivan
It’s completely free. Been using it for years!

Good to know, thanks!

Besides Google Search Console and Google Trends, I also like ‘Answer the Public’ for keyword ideas. For technical SEO, I use the WooRank Chrome extension.

Is it ‘Answer the Public’ now?

@Benjamin
Haha, I might’ve always gotten the name wrong. I think it’s ‘Answer the Public’!

Just bookmarking this post for all these great suggestions. Thanks, everyone!

Here are a few I recommend:

  1. Screaming Frog SEO Spider – It’s a good tool for checking technical SEO, but limited to 500 pages on the free version.
  2. Ahrefs Free Keyword Generator – Nice for basic keyword research.
  3. Google Keyword Planner – Offers keyword ideas, but full search volumes only show if you’re running ads.
  4. smallseotools.com – Has a variety of basic tools worth checking out.

Keyword Sheeter is a simple, useful option.

Here are a few tools I find useful:

  • Google Keyword Planner – Great for keyword research without paying. Needs a Google Ads account but no spend is required.
  • Google Search Console – Essential for site performance tracking on Google.
  • Google Analytics – Good for understanding visitor behavior.
  • Ubersuggest – Free version has limitations but useful for a start.
  • Answer the Public – Helps find popular questions for content ideas.
  • Moz Link Explorer (Free) – Gives insights into backlinks.
  • Screaming Frog SEO Spider – Free version lets you crawl up to 500 pages.
  • Bing Webmaster Tools – Like Search Console but for Bing.
  • Yoast SEO – Free plugin if you use WordPress.
  • SERPs Keyword Rank Checker – Good for checking rankings on Google.

Not exactly free, but Keywords Everywhere is $10 per year and useful for long-tail keywords, trends, and competition.

Try Termsuggest.com

Google Keyword Planner is great. I also suggest linking Google Search Console to Google Sheets and using Apps Script to pull data. It’s free and very helpful for monitoring changes in clicks, impressions, and rankings over time.

@Ted
Hey, that sounds super helpful. Do you have any tutorials?
