I’ve been considering whether or not to get an SEO certification, but I’m unsure if it’s actually worth the time and money. Has anyone here completed one? Do you feel it provides any practical value in real-world projects or is it just something to add to your LinkedIn profile?
I completed the HubSpot SEO course recently. It’s free, and while it covers the basics, I found it useful as a starting point. It didn’t dive too deep, but I’d say it’s enough to help you understand foundational SEO concepts.
@Marquis
I agree. I also took that course, and it was straightforward. If you’re looking to learn the basics without spending money, it’s a good option. However, for those aiming to get a certification that stands out to employers, you may want to explore more in-depth courses.
@Donna
That makes sense. Certificates might help enhance a resume, but I’ve found that working on actual projects provides much more insight into SEO. The certificate can be a nice bonus, but it doesn’t always reflect hands-on experience.
I’ve looked into a few paid courses like Traffic Think Tank. They go pretty in-depth and offer some templates and strategies that could be helpful if you’re serious about SEO as a career.

I’ve heard good things about Traffic Think Tank. It sounds like they offer a lot of real-world SEO advice and practical applications. Did you feel it was worth the price?
@Nicolas
I think it was. It’s not cheap, but they cover a lot of topics that helped me understand different aspects of SEO beyond just the basics. Also, they have a Slack community where you can ask questions and get advice, which is nice if you want continuous support.
I went through the Semrush Academy courses. They offer a certificate, but I mostly wanted to learn SEO concepts. The courses are well-structured, and you can pick the topics you want to focus on, which is convenient if you’re just trying to fill specific knowledge gaps.
@Robert
Semrush Academy does seem like a good resource. Did you feel like their courses were enough to improve your SEO skills significantly, or did you end up looking for more material afterward?

For someone starting out, it’s sufficient. I learned a lot about keyword research and on-page SEO. That said, if you want to get into advanced techniques, you might need to supplement with other resources.
I recently completed the Google SEO Fundamentals course on Coursera. It took about 30 hours, but it covered everything from on-page to off-page SEO. I’d say it’s worth it if you’re looking to understand the full scope of SEO without rushing.
@Tyson
Thirty hours is a pretty significant time investment. Do you feel like the course content justified that? Or did you find yourself skimming through parts?

I went through it all since I wanted a solid understanding of SEO. It was a bit long, but I felt like each section was informative. If you’re new to SEO, the course provides a well-rounded foundation without leaving you overwhelmed.
