I’ve been paying £1200 a month for SEO work, and honestly, I’m not sure it’s been worth it. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Hard to say without knowing more. What kind of business are you in? Is the SEO work helping drive more revenue? Why do you feel it isn’t worth it?
It would help if you shared your industry, the type of campaign you’re running, what they promised to deliver each month, and the reports they provided. I recently helped a client switch from an SEO company that charged £390/month for just one short blog post each month… Total waste of money for what they actually did!
What exactly are you getting for that price?
You might want to look at detailed data like site analytics and search console reports for the past 6 months to see if there’s any improvement.
As others have said, it’s tough to give advice without more info.
If you’re paying £1200 a month, you should be seeing noticeable results. Why keep paying if you’re not happy with what they’re doing?
I think it’s worth considering if.

I’ve also wondered about that.
Could you give more details? It would help provide context.
Not enough info to answer accurately. I have clients paying anywhere from $500 to $2000 a month for SEO. Higher-paying clients see faster results because more work can be done each month, but others in less competitive industries might not need to spend as much. Recently took over for a client who was paying $2500 monthly with zero results from their previous SEO company. Reduced the cost to $500, and they saw big improvements because the previous company wasn’t actually doing much.
That’s tough. Sorry you’re not seeing the results you hoped for. Here are some common reasons:
Sometimes SEO agencies offer basic packages like ‘silver’ or ‘gold’ that may not have enough impact to compete in a tough market. Without more details about your niche and SEO goals, it’s hard to say for sure. Ideally, the company should tell you which pages they’re targeting and how that connects to bringing in leads or sales.
Mostly SEO starts with an audit to find technical issues, which can take weeks or months to fix. After that, it’s about monitoring for any new issues and working on a plan to help you reach your company goals. Typically, they should also be working on content and backlinks each month. Quality backlinks can be pricey. For example, some competitors create dozens of articles monthly and spend thousands on backlinks to dominate in a niche.
It’s hard to say if you’re getting value without seeing results that boost revenue. How long have you been doing this? Might be worth having another agency check the work done so far.
Could you give more details about what they’re actually doing for that cost?
My team members all make over £1200, and they each work on SEO.
We handled SEO for a client in India, targeted 100 keywords, and got all of them on the first page in 9 months. Charged them 1 lakh INR.

If it’s delivering results, then the price doesn’t matter as much.
When starting SEO, what were your website goals? Are you seeing any progress towards those goals? It can take a while to see results. If you’re not seeing improvements after 6+ months, that’s a red flag.
I charge around 3-4k monthly for ongoing content, audits, technical updates, and regular reporting. It’s not just about ranking a keyword but building a presence. For £1500, you’d get a report with recommendations, not hands-on support.
