Using top keywords better

I run an IT company. We do custom development and recruiting.

A while ago, when ChatGPT and OpenAI became popular, we wrote some technical articles on how to use the GPT API with different programming languages.

It’s been almost two years, and we still rank 1st or 2nd for certain keywords, getting a good amount of activity (clicks, impressions).

The problem is, those clicks aren’t coming from our ideal clients and don’t bring leads for our services.

How can I use those keywords to get clicks for content that talks about what we actually offer?

Do you have a CTA button on the article for people to reach out? Is there an option for a newsletter sign-up? Have you set up a page pixel to retarget visitors with Facebook or LinkedIn ads?

Here are some tips:

Good advice, I agree!

Yes, we have a CTA and newsletter sign-up, but no pixel. Thanks for the reminder!

Try focusing on keywords that are in the middle of the funnel, which are more likely to bring in leads, instead of just top-of-the-funnel keywords that provide information or ‘how to’ guides.

You could use those articles as pillars or clusters and build more content around them to link to commercial keywords.

What insights are you getting from Google Search Console?

Create a service that solves a problem for the people reading those articles and promote it directly.

That’s a good idea, but I think the people reading those articles are mainly other developers looking for tutorials. They’re not interested in our services.

Writing those articles might’ve been a mistake because now Google seems to think we specialize in tech tutorials.

Couldn’t you update the articles to add a subtle mention of your services throughout them?

The articles are mainly about APIs and include code tutorials.

But I actually just updated them with a note about our services at the end, using some keywords related to what we do. Thanks for the idea!
Also, those articles already have internal links to posts about our services.

Nice work!
