What are the best SEO courses you recommend for a law firm

I am in New York City and want to learn SEO to help grow my law firm.

Check out Local SEO Shurrikken. They have 16 hours of training that cover everything you need to know.

It depends on what kind of SEO you want to focus on. Are you looking at local SEO or general SEO?

Matt Cutts’ old videos are still great for understanding how Google works. They clear up a lot of SEO myths:

  1. Backlinks are key for authority.
  2. Word count doesn’t matter. This is a myth created by content writing companies.
  3. On-site SEO won’t make you rank—it’s just a signal.
  4. Google doesn’t actually ‘read’ your content; it analyzes signals.
  5. There’s no penalty for duplicate content, contrary to popular belief.
  6. Just having checklists like XML sitemaps won’t rank your site automatically.

To succeed, focus on:

  • Keyword research
  • Creating targeted content
  • Building authority through partnerships and networks
  • Learning enough to ask the right questions if you hire experts
  • Testing and refining your strategy

If you’re a lawyer, it might make more sense to hire a professional SEO. Focus on what you do best.

You should look for someone experienced in law firm SEO. Joy Dip is a good option. You can connect with him on social media.

Here are some tips for learning SEO for your law firm:

  • Learn SEO basics like keyword research, on-page SEO, and backlinks.
  • Use tools like Google Keyword Planner or Ahrefs to find relevant terms such as ‘divorce lawyer NYC’.
  • Optimize for local SEO by setting up your Google My Business profile and creating content for your local area.
  • Create blogs that answer common client questions like ‘What to do after a car accident?’
  • Track results using Google Analytics and Search Console to refine your strategy over time.

Darren Shaw at Whitespark is a good resource. They have both beginner and advanced newsletters. Also, PLEper is a simple, budget-friendly tool for local SEO.

Semrush and Ahrefs offer excellent beginner courses. You can also check Udemy and Coursera for affordable options. I have a curated list of free digital marketing courses, including SEO—feel free to message me if you’re interested.

@Eliel
Courses from Semrush and Ahrefs are overhyped. Everyone learns the same strategies from them.

I agree to an extent, but they are useful for understanding the basics.

Don’t push big platforms so much. They already dominate the industry.

That’s fair, but for beginners, their courses are thorough. I also recommend exploring alternative resources.

Some courses might be scams, so research carefully before signing up.

I’ve seen people push low-quality courses on forums. Be cautious.

Can you provide any proof? Many people recommend these courses, and you might be wrong.

@Leif
They never back up their claims. It’s just trolling at this point.

Learning SEO for a law firm in New York is very challenging. It’s one of the most competitive niches. If you’re serious, you’ll need to study strategies from top experts and optimize specifically for the law niche. General SEO advice won’t cut it.

You should hire professionals with law firm experience. Competing in New York as a DIY SEO is nearly impossible.

Ask questions carefully on forums, as many scammers might reply. Try Coursera or Google’s official certification programs for reliable information.
