Semrush or ahrefs … which one works best lately?

I’m into both SEO and Google Ads and was wondering if there’s a better tool for managing both. I’ve used ahrefs and it’s been solid, but as I get into Google Ads, I’ve heard that SEMrush has stronger features for keyword research and reporting. What’s everyone think?

Honestly, I’d go with SEMrush for the reporting tools if you’re doing ads. Ahrefs is better for SEO research though.

I totally agree, it’s a go-to for anyone doing SEO regularly.

Screaming Frog is still my favorite SEO tool by far. I’m bringing a site back online after it went down during Covid, so I’ve been checking for any missing backlinks with redirects. Anyone with an ahrefs account who can help? I’d rather not pay for a full month just for this.

@Dominik
Have you tried search console? It helped me find backlinks for some really old pages.

Good idea, I’ll definitely check that out once the site’s live. It’s been a process getting it back up.

Could you explain how you’re setting up those redirects?

@Francisco
Sure thing, it’s mainly about directing old URLs to the new site structure. There are plugins that can help if you use WordPress.

Mind going into more detail on plugins for redirects? Especially on WordPress.

If you’re focused on keyword research, go with Ahrefs. For a full toolkit, SEMrush is solid.

It’s tough to compare them directly. SEMrush is helpful for ads, but ahrefs has the edge for organic keyword tracking.

I only have SEMrush, but I’m a bit disappointed with its backlink tracker. Anyone else notice the same?

Yeah, I’ve found their link database doesn’t pick up everything.

Each tool has its strengths. For technical SEO, I always recommend Screaming Frog for deep crawls, and Ahrefs for backlink data. SEMrush is good for reporting and ads though.

I mainly use SEMrush; it’s been enough for what I need, though ahrefs is pretty good too. Prices are a bit high these days though.

Yeah, SEMrush is pricier than before.

Just curious… how many of us here are using both?

Ahrefs has been more useful for me.

It used to be better before they hiked the prices!

True, and now SEMrush costs even more than ahrefs.
