I’ve always been curious…what got everyone into SEO? Was it a job you fell into, or something you chose? Looking forward to hearing your stories!
For me, it’s like solving a puzzle, and I really enjoy the challenge.

Best description I’ve heard so far, haha.
Obviously, it’s all about the groupies.

Haha, totally! Plus, explaining SEO to everyone is always a fun part.

You joke, but back in the day, there really were a few!

Sounds like it’s story time!
At first, I got into it to build passive income. That was the dream, but now I’m here because it’s actually fun.
I was typing ‘sex’ but missed, typed ‘SEO,’ and here I am.
Besides the paycheck, I do enjoy it now and then.

Same here.
Feels a bit like Stockholm syndrome.
About eight years ago, a client asked if I knew SEO. I said yes…then immediately searched online to learn what SEO was! And here I am today.
I’m a journalist, and I started playing around with Google Trends. They liked my work, and now I do SEO for a newspaper.
Simply because it’s in demand.
I work in an agency—make choices now, see results (or none) later.
It’s an amazing skill where you get to learn new things and earn more over time.
I like that the work I do can actually be exchanged for goods and services (and quite a few of them at that!).
It’s slow, and it’s concrete work.
I’ve been into SEO since the late '90s. Started as a freelancer at night, then went back to school to get a degree in E-Business Management. After graduation, I left a job at IBM Global Services to pursue digital marketing.
I remember walking into my job at Disney Parks and Resorts Online in 2006 with a boombox playing Ludacris when I reached #1 in Google for ‘SEO Expert’—that was my way of proving myself to my boss. Today, I co-authored a textbook that’s used in 40 universities for online marketing programs. I’ve taught hundreds of students and love the mix of tech, content, psychology, and strategy that SEO brings. It’s become my world, second only to family.
